Doctor Who, A Split Series 5?

There are rumours about, and I must stress these are nothing more than rumours ATM, so may not happen, but there is talk about a US style Doctor Who series 5.
This will mean 6 episodes in the spring, with a mid-season cliff-hanger, then 7 more episodes before December, followed by a Christmas special.
I've given this a lot of thought and I think its a reasonable idea and could work! Doctor Who needs a return to cliffhangers too!
