From Time Lord to rock star

DOCTOR Who star Matt Smith and Karen Gillan joke they are rock stars as they head out on their tour in this amusing clip.

The pair, who took up the roles of the Time Lord and his assistant Amy Pond earlier this spring, headed out to Matt's home town Northampton during a whirlwind tour of the country.

And while Matt jokes it's the closest they'll get to being rock stars, Karen seems more interested in taking paparazzi snaps of him.

Doctor Who Confidential will air after Doctor Who tomorrow on BBC3.

The Pandorica Opens - Preview

 

The title of the penultimate episode of the current series has been revealed as The Pandorica Opens and the episode will be exclusively previewed at a special screening at the Princess Anne Theatre, BAFTA on Wednesday 16 June.
There will be a special Question and Answer session with Matt Smith talking about his first season as the Doctor and Steven Moffat talking about his first season as Lead Writer. Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will join the panel.

DW - Doctor Who: Joanna Page to play 'long lost relative' of The Doctor

 

Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page may be about to become the latest star of Doctor Who, if this article by the Daily Star is right.

The newspaper reports that Page has signed on to play a "long lost relative of the Time Lord in two episodes". There are precious few 'relatives' of The Doctor, so speculation is rife that Page may be signing on to play Susan Foreman, the companion and so-called granddaughter of the original Doctor, William Hartnell.

In the post-2005 series, The Doctor had some of his DNA stolen and used to create a female warrior who was named Jenny by Catherine Tate's character, Donna Noble. However, it's thought that this isn't the character in question, since Georgia Moffat would be capable of playing that role.

Since the current fifth series is in full swing, if Page is to make an appearance, it'll more than likely be in the two-part series finale. A show source has implied that her appearance might be a test for a long-term role as a companion on the show. If Page's character turns out to be Susan Foreman, that could result in a veritable nerdgasm as the new series connects to one of the oldest characters in Doctor Who's long history.

According to The Star's show source, they think that if Joanna's role works out, she could become a regular fixture in the TARDIS:

Joanna could be massive for the show.

She’s been offered two episodes and if that goes well the sky’s the limit.

She’ll start off as a long-lost relative of the Doctor but may then become a major player.

Prod, dig and poke at someone long enough and they’ll eventually fight back. It turns out that planets respond in much the same way.
It’s the near future in a sleepy Welsh village and Nasreen (Meera Syal) and Tony are on the threshold of making (literally) groundbreaking scientific discoveries. Their mining equipment has dug further underground than ever before but something underneath the ground wasn’t ready to be disturbed and is making its way to the surface to intercept…
Fortunately the Doctor, Amy and Rory have made a slight detour – explaining why Miss Pond is in hotpants in a graveyard – and the Time Lord knows who’s lurking down below only too well.
It's a scary, church under siege, 'classic' Doctor Who story for the viewer but one thing’s for sure – it most definitely isn’t going to end well for the TARDIS crew...

 

The daleks arrive at Wembley Arena.

This October London will welcome Doctor Who Live! the touring stage show of the hit TV series to Wembley Arena before it heads across the UK for another 22 performances in 8 other cities including Sheffield, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, Cardiff, Liverpool and Belfast.
The current Dr Who, Matt Smith, his assistant Karen Gillan and their co-stars will not be appearing on stage but will feature in pre-recorded video scenes. The show's writer Stephen Moffat has confirmed the live show will include bucket loads of special effects, pyrotechnics and live music in the form of a full orchestra as well as what we hope will be giant replicas of favourite baddies, the Daleks, Cybermen and Oods.
The show will be in London on 8th-10th October and then touring until early November, a cast is yet to be announced. Other TV shows that will shortly appear on stage include Coronation Street Abridged Live!

Barrowman hasn't watched 'Doctor Who'

John Barrowman has admitted that he hasn't watched the new series of Doctor Who.
Barrowman, who has previously appeared in the show as his Torchwood character Captain Jack, explained that he has been too busy to watch Matt Smith on the show.
"I have not seen any of the new Doctor Who," he told Bang Showbiz. "I've been away in the States and because of the filming schedule over there doing Desperate Housewives I wasn't able to sit down and watch it."
However, Barrowman added that he is "excited" about watching the show in the future.
"I have it all on my computer," he said. "I've yet to watch it to get up to date. I'm looking forward to it. I'm a big fan of Who myself.
"I think Matt Smith will add his own kind of personality and cache to being the Doctor. So I'm excited about it and like everybody else out there, they will get on that journey with the Doctor and the Tardis and the assistant. It's not really about who plays it, it's about the programme. I'm looking forward to watching."
Doctor Who continues on Saturday at 6.25pm on BBC One.

Doctor Who the Musical? Not going to happen, says Arthur Darvill

Not that it ever was, of course. But the suggestion did come up when I recently sat down with Arthur Darvill, who played Rory in the first episode of this series of Doctor Who and whose character returns in a more regular role in this weekend’s episode.

Aside from his acting career, Arthur is an accomplished musician and composer, and has worked with playwright Che Walker on two projects of note: The Frontline, which was the first contemporary production to grace the stage at Shakespeare’s Globe, and the Young Vic’s recent musical Been So Long. So it was natural to ask whether he’d consider writing a musical episode for Doctor Who.

> Doctor Who the Musical? No. I’d love to write an episode where everyone’s dancing or something, I don’t know. But no, Doctor Who the Musical isn’t gong to happen!

That was the most frivolous point of the interview, but there’s plenty more — from his first working with Matt Smith (in the West End run of Swimming With Sharks) to the challenges as an actor presented by all the scripts being shrouded in extreme secrecy.

Dr Who hots up with steamy scenes

While Amy Pond’s revealing outfits have left fans in no doubt that she is the sexiest Doctor Who companion in the history of the drama, on Saturday night she is to appear in a risqué scene, apparently forcing herself on the Time Lord.

Played by the actress Karen Gillan, Amy is seen kissing the doctor, played by Matt Smith, as he is backed up against the side of his Tardis in her bedroom.

She even tells him that she doesn’t mind if it is a just a one-night-stand, despite the fact he has already spurned her advances on a bed.

Wearing the trademark mini skirt, Amy attempts to undress the Doctor, who briefly responds when she kisses him before pushing her away in tonight’s episode.

Amy also jokes about how long it is since the 907-year-old Time Lord last had sex, making suggestive innuendoes and provocatively lying down on the bed in front of him.

The heated moment occurs when the red-head takes the Doctor back home with her when the Tardis touches down once again on the night before her wedding.

Amy then produces the wedding ring that she planned to wear before she fled with the Time Lord.

Soon it becomes clear that Amy, who had been working as a kissogram, wants to do more than just talk as she begins flirting with him.

Amy declares that fighting off the evil Weeping Angels, which feature in the episode, has made her think about her life.

She says: “About what I want. About who I want. You know what I mean.”

When Dr Who does not respond, she says: “Doctor in a word. In one very simple word even you can understand...,” before jumping on top of him on the bed.

Pushing her away, the Doctor says: “You’re getting married in the morning.”

But Amy replies: “Well, the morning is a long time away. What are you going to do about that?”

The stunned Doctor makes his escape to the other side of the room where the Tardis is parked, telling his companion: “Amy listen to me I am 907 years old do you understand what that means?”

She responds: “It’s been a while.”

When he tells her that the relationship could never work, she replies: “You are sweet doctor, but I really wasn’t suggesting anything quite so long term.” She then kisses him passionately.

As if he has come to some revelation, the Doctor says: “I don’t know why, I have no idea, but quite possibly the single most important thing in the history of the universe is that I get you sorted out right now?”

In what will be seen as a clear innuendo, Amy replies: “That’s what I have been trying to tell you.”

It is unclear if during the scene, she is acting out of character as part of a wider plot.

When Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper, attempted to seduce the Doctor and kissed him in 2006 it was revealed that her body had been taken over by the villain Cassandra.
